Community Affairs Coordinator
The Community Affairs Coordinator plays a vital role in building meaningful connections between the Augusta Sports Council and the community. This full-time position is responsible for leading all volunteer recruitment, management, and recognition efforts while fostering strong relationships with Community Sports Groups (CSG’s) and other local organizations. The coordinator will actively develop strategies to engage the public in ASC’s mission, cultivate volunteer networks, and expand opportunities for community involvement. This role also serves as a key liaison, ensuring that community partners and volunteers feel valued, informed, and inspired to support ASC’s events and initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS
At least 2+ years of sporting event coordination
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience
Pattern of progressively responsible professional experience
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Experience in sports tourism
Experience in sales or communications
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for all ASC events and programs.
Identify year-round volunteer needs, create position descriptions, maintain volunteer databases, and ensure safety plans are in place for events.
Build and strengthen relationships with Community Sports Groups, schools, civic organizations, and local partners to support community events.
Plan and lead outreach efforts to expand ASC’s presence in the community.
Represent ASC at community events, meetings, and presentations.
Organize volunteer recognition programs to encourage ongoing engagement.
Serve as Volunteer Director for IRONMAN® 70.3® and manage the IRONMAN Foundation Grant Program.
Assist with logistics, sponsorships, and volunteer support for major ASC events (e.g., State of Tourism, sports awards banquets).
Maintain accurate event and volunteer records in ASC databases and provide timely updates to leadership and the Board.
Support logistics for community events, including venue coordination, volunteer management, partner fulfillment, and media outreach.
Help cultivate partnerships and fundraising opportunities with local organizations and sponsors.
Ensure volunteers, partners, and supporters are properly acknowledged and thanked.
Follow approved event budgets and contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Complete administrative tasks as needed and take on other projects as assigned.
Availability for evening meetings, weekend events, and occasional travel is required.

Work is generally performed in an office environment, but may also be required to perform job duties in an outside setting for events
Ability to continuously stand, bend, and lift up to 20 pounds frequently
Ability to work in outdoor settings for events

Work Environment
The Augusta Sports Council office is located in beautiful Downtown Augusta at 1010 Broad Street. The ASC shares office space with Destination Augusta.
