Volunteers Needed for USA Cycling National Championships
The Augusta Sports Council is seeking volunteers for the upcoming USA Cycling National Championships that will be held the week of June 20-24. According to event organizers over 300 volunteers will be needed for the event. Opportunities to help will begin mid-week for registration and following at the three race venues, Fort Gordon, J. Strom Thurmond Dam, and downtown Augusta.
This is the second year that Augusta will host one of USA Cycling’s most popular and competitive events, the Juniors, U23, Elite & Paralympic Road National Championships. Over 1000 athletes are expected to compete for national championships in road, individual time trial and criterium disciplines. This event will also be announcing the team of this summer's 2012 London Paralympic team.

Volunteer Job Descriptions

· Registration– have athletes fill out required forms and give athletes their packet.

· Venue Build – build needed stage, place barricades, hang signage, build truss, set up tents.

· Parking – direct vehicles into parking and assist with directions.

· Athlete Hydration-replenish the coolers in athlete hydration tent with Gatorade and water for the athletes, filling up water bottles, replenishing ice, etc.

· Course Marshal – cover small intersections and areas not covered by law enforcement. If a motorist approaches the intersection, kindly have them stop until they can safely move through the intersection.

· Holder – hold and release riders on ramp during time trial. Must have some strength and stamina. Holders cannot be changed in the middle of a category.

· Whip– rally cyclists in bike staging area prior to race category.

· Turn-around team– assist with moving barricades during time trial event at Pollards Corner area.

· Site Breakdown – return materials such as barricades, signage, tents, etc. to supply truck. Also help with disposing trash. *Site Breakdown’s end time is estimated to be one hour after last race.

· Testing (escorts) - assist with escorting athletes to USADA’s anti-doping area while adhering to USADA’s protocol.
