Golfing for G.A.M.E.S. Tournament to benefit Augusta Sports Council Scholarship Program

The Augusta Sports Council (ASC) will host the second annual Golfing for G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship Tournament on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 12:30 pm at Forest Hills Golf Club. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the ASC’s Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports (G.A.M.E.S.) Awards program.

Since 1992, more than 2,000 area high school and adult athletes in have been recognized for their accomplishments on and off the field through the G.A.M.E.S. Awards program. The awards are presented each May during the Augusta Sports Awards banquet.
 
Tournament entry fees are $125/player or $450/team for ASC members and $150/player and $$575/team for non-members. The tournament package includes lunch, range balls, cart, tournament contest, dinner and awards. Hole sponsorships are also available. Local Athletes Selected to Receive G.A.M.E.S Awards 

Augusta, GA (April 29, 2011) – The Augusta Sports Council has selected the 19 finalists for the 20th annual Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports (GAMES) Awards. The award finalists will be honored at the G.A.M.E.S. Awards banquet on Wednesday May 18, 2011 at the Augusta Marriott Hotel & Suites in Downtown Augusta.

The G.A.M.E.S. Awards have been presented since 1992. The annual program was created to highlight the outstanding amateur athletes that represent a broad spectrum of sports disciplines in the CSRA. The 2011 GAMES Award finalists are:

The GAMES Awards Banquet will also feature special guest College Football Hall of Fame Coach Bobby Bowden.  Bowden is recognized for his 33 seasons with the Florida State Seminole’s football program which includes a record of more than 300 wins, 28 bowl appearances, two national championships, and an induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006 making Bowden the second-winningest coach in college football.  Since his retirement in 2009, Bowden has published a new book “Called to Coach: Reflections on Life, Faith, and Football” and continues to tour the country with speaking engagements.

 

The GAMES Awards banquet is open to the public.  Check-in and a social hour will open at 6:30 PM, with dinner and program beginning promptly at 7:30 PM.  Tickets are $45 for Sports Council members and $55 for non-members.  Tables of 8 are also available. Augusta Sports Council auction now LIVE

The Augusta Sports Council has teamed up with online charity auction BiddingForGood to launch an auction as part of the ASC's 20th Anniversary campaign. 

For the past 20 years the Augusta Sports council has recognized over 2,000 local athletes for their athletic and academic achievements.  G.A.M.E.S. Award nominations are solicied from area parents, sports organizations and coaches.  The multi-sport awards program is the only one of its kind honoring youth and adults from across the area in more than a dozen sports.   All proceeds from the auction will support the annual G.A.M.E.S (Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports) Scholarship that is given out during the annual G.A.M.E.S banquet to two deserving student athletes.

Augusta Sports Council awards banquet to honor local amateur athletes

Augusta, GA (April 12, 2011) – Legendary football coach Bobby Bowden will be the special guest speaker for the 20th Annual Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports (G.A.M.E.S.) Awards banquet on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Augusta Marriott Hotel and Suites.

Former Florida State University head coach Bobby Bowden completed his career as the second-winningest coach in Division I FBS history, with more than 300 wins. From 1976-2009, he led the Seminoles to 14-straight top-five finishes, 12 ACC Championships and two National Championships. A five-time national coach of the year selection, Bowden was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006.

Bowden will share the story of his success with the recipients of the 2011 G.A.M.E.S. Awards. Created in 1992, the G.A.M.E.S. Awards program was created to highlight the outstanding amateur athletes that represent a broad spectrum of sports disciplines in the CSRA. Awards are presented to high school athletes in the categories of All-Around Athlete, Outstanding Athlete, Rising Star and Outstanding Team.  Special recognition is also paid to outstanding high school coaches and officials in addition to club sport, collegiate and adaptive athletes.

The Augusta Sports Council is now accepting nominations for the 2011 G.A.M.E.S. Awards. All nominees must be at least of high school age and residents of Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie or Aiken Counties. Nomination forms are available for download at www.AugustaSportsCouncil .org or by contacting the Augusta Sports Council at 706.722.8326 ext. 231. The deadline for submitting nominations is April 22, 2011.

Augusta Sports Council seeking nominations for 2011 G.A.M.E.S. Awards

The Augusta Sports Council is seeking nominees for its annual sports awards program, the Greater Augusta Medals for Excellence in Sports (G.A.M.E.S.) Awards. Since the Sports Council’s inception in 1991, G.A.M.E.S. Awards have been presented annually to the top area high school, amateur and adaptive sports athletes, coaches and officials. The awards will be presented at the Augusta Sports Awards Banquet to be held in May 2011.

All nominees must be at least of high school age and residents of Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie or Aiken Counties. A downloadable nomination form is available here. The deadline for submitting nominations is April 22, 2011.
