Augusta Half Marathon to impact local traffic

The Augusta Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Nearly 1,000 runners are expected to compete in 4th annual event, which begins at 8:00 am at Enterprise Mill in downtown Augusta.

For the safety of the runners, traffic on portions of the route will be slowed, re-directed or closed to traffic to allow runners to pass.  Traffic control will be managed by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. Motorists are encouraged to use caution and be aware of road closures or slowdowns due to race activities.

Greene Street - Eastbound lane from 15th Street to 13th Street - Closed from 7:00 am to 8:30 am

St. Sebastian Way - Northbound lane from Greene Street to Broad Street—Closed from 7:30 am to 8:15 am

Broad Street - Eastbound lane from St. Sebastian Way to 8th Street - Closed from 7:50 am to 8:15 am

Greene Street - Westbound lane from 8th Street to St. Sebastian Way - Closed from 8:00 am to 8:30 am

St. Sebastian Way - Southbound right lane from Greene Street to Walton Way - Closed from 8:00 am to 8:30 am

Walton Way - Westbound right lane from 13th Street to Highland Avenue – Closed from 8:00 am to 9:15 am

Highland Avenue / Berckmans Road – Northbound lane – Closed from 8:15 am to 10:00 am

Washington Road – Eastbound right lane from Berckmans Road to Calhoun Expressway – Closed from 8:30 am to 10:30 am

Volunteer now for the Augusta Half Marathon!

The Augusta Sports Council is seeking volunteers for the third annual Augusta Half Marathon Festival, October 23-24, 2010. More than 150 volunteers are needed for a variety of functions including athlete registration, course set-up/break-down, water stations, finish line support and hospitality.

Augusta Sports Council presents third annual Augusta Half Marathon Festival

The Augusta Sports Council will present the Augusta Half Marathon Festival October 23-24, 2010. The 13.1-mile race is the highlight of a weekend of activities.

Race registration and the Trick-or-Trot Festival will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Augusta Common. The Augusta Sports Council will host fun runs for the entire family, including the Medals for Miles fun run, geared toward kids in grades K-12 and the Spooky Stroll, a fun run/walk and costume parade for the entire family. Other festival activities include inflatables, trick-or-treating, vendors, games and more.

On Sunday, October 24, 2010, Augusta Half Marathon will start and finish at Augusta Common. The 13.1-mile race course includes areas of downtown Augusta, Summerville, Lake Olmstead and Calhoun Expressway. Local residents and motorists are encouraged to use caution and be aware of road closures or slowdowns due to race activities. Representatives from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office will be out in force to manage traffic.

The third annual Augusta Half Marathon is expected to draw close to 1,000 racers. While the majority of the competitors are from Georgia, more than 20 states are represented. World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), the nation’s preeminent organizer of multi-sports racing events, will oversee race logistics. WTC also provides race management for the ESi Ironman 70.3, held in Augusta each September.
