The Augusta Sports Council will present the Augusta Half Marathon Festival October 23-24, 2010. The 13.1-mile race is the highlight of a weekend of activities.
Race registration and the Trick-or-Trot Festival will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Augusta Common. The Augusta Sports Council will host fun runs for the entire family, including the Medals for Miles fun run, geared toward kids in grades K-12 and the Spooky Stroll, a fun run/walk and costume parade for the entire family. Other festival activities include inflatables, trick-or-treating, vendors, games and more.
On Sunday, October 24, 2010, Augusta Half Marathon will start and finish at Augusta Common. The 13.1-mile race course includes areas of downtown Augusta, Summerville, Lake Olmstead and Calhoun Expressway. Local residents and motorists are encouraged to use caution and be aware of road closures or slowdowns due to race activities. Representatives from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office will be out in force to manage traffic.
The third annual Augusta Half Marathon is expected to draw close to 1,000 racers. While the majority of the competitors are from Georgia, more than 20 states are represented. World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), the nation’s preeminent organizer of multi-sports racing events, will oversee race logistics. WTC also provides race management for the ESi Ironman 70.3, held in Augusta each September.
The Augusta Sports Council is seeking volunteers for the Half Marathon Festival. More than 150 volunteers are needed for a variety of functions including athlete registration, course set-up/break-down, water stations, finish line support and hospitality. Volunteer forms and detailed race information, including course maps are available online at www.augustahalf.org or by contacting the Augusta Sports Council at 706.722.8326 ext. 231.
