Greater Augusta Sports Council Presents the
Ray Guy Award

The Greater Augusta Sports Council presented the inaugural Ray Guy Award in December 2000.  Joining the ranks of such national college football awards as the Heisman, the Doak Walker, and the Davey O'Brien Awards, the Ray Guy Award honors the nation's top collegiate punter.  Each year the award is presented on live television at the ESPN College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Florida.

Ray Guy
Ray Guy is football's premier punter.  A Thomson, Georgia native, Guy attended Southern Mississippi where he lettered in both football and baseball.  In 1974, Guy signed with the Oakland Raiders, becoming the first pure punter ever selected in the first round of the NFL draft.  A three-time Super Bowl Champion, Guy appeared in seven Pro-Bowls, including the 1976 Pro-Bowl where one of Guy's kicks hit the TV screen suspended from the ceiling in the Louisiana Superdome.  Throughout his career, Ray Guy was unsurpassed in his ability to impact the outcome of games with incredible hang time and ball control.  Now retired from professional football, Ray travels the country with American Football Specialist as co-founder of the Ray Guy Kicking Academy.   In 2004, Ray Guy was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, becoming the first punter to achieve the honor.
