2008 Sports Awards Gala

The 16th annual Greater Augusta Sports Awards Gala was held Friday, May 23, 2008. NFL great Jim Plunkett was the featured speaker! The inaugural induction of the American Football Punting and Kicking Hall of Fame took place and the Ray Guy Award winner Durrant Brooks was honored at the Gala  alongside the local recipients of the G.A.M.E.S. Awards.

 

Greater Augusta Medal for Excellence in Sports (G.A.M.E.S.) Awards

Since the inception of the Greater Augusta Medal for Excellence in Sports program in 1992, the GASC has recognized nearly 2000 people for their outstanding accomplishments in sports and academics. Nominate an Athlete!

Do you know someone who deserves recognition for their athletic and academic achievements? Nominate them for a Greater Augusta Medal for Excellence in Sports! If selected the athlete will become an invited finalist to the Greater Augusta Sports Awards Gala.

•  All nominees must be at least of high school age
•  All nominees must be residents of the Greater Augusta area, which includes Richmond, Columbia, McDuffie and Aiken
   Counties
•  Nominees may not be professional or have participated in professional sports at any time
•  Non-statistical data (grade point average, civic involvement, etc.) will be considered in the overall evaluation of the  
   candidate. Factors of race, religion, creed, and/or school affiliation shall never constitute grounds for including or
   excluding any nominee
